Artà is located in the northeast of the island, around 60 km from Palma. It is a small town, and is surrounded by coastline and lovely sandy beaches. It is a traditional town that is proud for its history and heritage, making few concessions for tourism.
The town church dominates the skyline and is overlooked by Santuari de Sant Salvador, which is a major attraction for visitors. This is easily reachable via the tree-lined walkway. The sanctuary and its walls were originally constructed in the 14th century, but were rebuilt in the 19th century. Artá´s biggest attractions relate to the cultural heritage of the area, providing large doses of history and culture.
Although Artá is well known for its history, culture and art-intense life style you will also find many beaches within a short hike of town. You are also within easy reach of the impressive caves, Coves del Drac, that is yet another well known attraction.
